Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic easily secured the victories they needed to take a place in the third round of the Australian Open.
Switzerland’s Roger Federer beat 6-1 6-4 6-1 Filip Krajinovic, the 41st in the world, to remain in the race for the seventh career title of the Australian Open and 21st Grand Slam.
The 38-year-old Swiss ended the match against the Serbian tennis player within 92 minutes in Melbourne.
On the other hand, Djokovic, who won the Australian Open for the seventh time last year, defeated Japanese Tatsuma Ito 6-1 6-4 6-2 within 95 minutes.
The 32-year-old Serbian, who is now seeking his 17th career Grand Slam, will now face Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, who eliminated Dan Evans in three sets.
Meanwhile, Federer will face Australian John Millman, whom he lost at the US Open 2018 after the home side defeated Polish Hubert Hurkacz in this round.
The Swiss has been racing at Melbourne Park for the 21st consecutive year and he has managed to be at least among the top 32 tennis players in any event.
“I’m very happy, it’s a great start to this season. I’m feeling very rested on the field. You just have to work hard and hope the job will pay off,” Federer said.
