Muguruza beats Halep, to meet Kenin in final

Garbine Muguruza went on to reach the Australian Open final after winning two sets against Romanian Simona Halep.

The 26-year-old Spaniard beat world number four tennis player in an interesting semifinal where he won two sets 7-6 (10-8) 7-5.

The two-time Grand Slams champion did not let the opponent score a point to win the set four times in the first set and was twice losing in the second set.

However, she has finally won both sets and now awaits Saturday’s final against American Sofia Ken.

This is the first time Muguruza will participate in a Grand Slams final since winning the Wimbledon title in 2017.

“I’m really excited to be in the finals – it’s been a long way up here. I wasn’t thinking I was losing, I just thought I should go on and I knew the opportunities would come to me,” said Muguruza, who also won the French Open in 2016.

“I was staying strong and struggling with all the energy I had.”
