Coach Quique Setien says he remains optimistic about Barcelona’s hopes of moving to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, despite Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal missing out on a return fixture against Napoli at Camp Nou after three weeks.
Barcelona scored a 1:1 draw in the Serie A match against San Paolo on Tuesday, thanks to a goal scored in the second half by Antoine Griezmann.
The French striker managed to equalize the outcome of this match after a goal scored by Dries Mertens for Napoli in the first half. Mertens could not stay up to the finish due to a rough move by Busquets.
That intervention prompted the Barcelona midfielder to be punished with a yellow card, which means he will not be able to play in the return match. Vidal suffered the same fate as the cause of an incident with Mario Ruin later, as Gerard Pique was injured in the final moments of the match.
However, Setien believes his squad will reach the next stage of the Champions League, thus eliminating Gennaro Gattuso’s squad.
“We will seek solutions,” Setien said at the post-match press conference.
“We have lost some important players, but two others will return – Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto. We have to look at things with optimism. We will be optimistic and think positively.”
“It’s a good result, considering we have the return game at home.”
