Kylian Mbappe has published a letter to The Players’ Tribune, where he recalled his training with Real Madrid as a youngster and his joy when he met his idol, Zinedine Zidane.
In a touching letter, entitled “a letter to the Little Kylians”, the French striker recalled the early days of his football career when his father was phoned by Real Madrid, who wanted to invite 14-year-old Kylian. in training for a week in Spain, during school holidays.
“It was shocking because they said to my dad, ‘Zidane wants to meet your son.’ At the time, Zizou was the club’s sports director. Of course, I was in the seventh heaven. I really wanted to go ”, wrote the 21-year-old who is now a World Cup winner with France.
After deciding not to tell anyone about his trip, including his close friend, the teenager had traveled to Madrid. He had traveled immediately from the airport to the Real Madrid training center. There he had the opportunity to meet Zidane – a moment he says he will never forget.
“Zidane met us in the parking lot, near his car, which of course was very good. We greeted him and he offered to drive me to the training ground. He pointed my finger at the passenger seat and told me to sit down,” Mbappe recalled.
“But I just got up and said, ‘Do I need to get my shoes off?’ Hahaha! I don’t know why I said that. But, it was Zidane’s car! He found it very funny. He said, “Of course not, come in.”
“He sent me down to the training ground and I was thinking to myself, ‘I’m in Zidane’s car. That’s not real, I’m probably still asleep on the plane. ” At times, even when you are experiencing something really, you dream. It was the same feeling as in the World Cup in Russia.”
