Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso said Barcelona “barely tickled” the Italian team during the 1:1 draw at San Paolo, adding that Napoli were far more impressive with their performance on Tuesday.
Barcelona scored a 1:1 draw in the Serie A match against San Paolo on Tuesday, thanks to a goal scored in the second half by Antoine Griezmann.
The French striker managed to equalize the outcome of this match after a goal scored by Dries Mertens for Napoli in the first half.
Napoli – disciplined and compact at the defensive stage – failed to utilize a performance below the desired level of Lionel Messi and Barcelona in San Paolo after receiving only one draw.
“Since Quique Setien arrived, they have systematically pushed five or six players into attack. They’re not the only ones that follow and that’s all,” Gattuso told Sky Sport Italia.
“They force you to defend a lot and we were forced to play that way because if we had left room on defense, they could have really hurt us.”
“They barely scratched us tonight, they didn’t even have a single shot inside the gate. We could have stayed there all night and they wouldn’t have scored, but we suffered a goal after a terrible mistake. They didn’t hurt us, they barely tickled us.”
