Roger Federer will miss the French Open grand slam tournament for the fourth time in five years because of knee surgery on Wednesday.
The winner of the 20 grand slam operated on his right knee in Switzerland, which had bothered him for a while.
Federer, who won the title only once at the French Open in 2009, has said doctors are confident he will recover completely after surgery.
“After the procedure, the doctors confirmed that the surgery was the right thing,” the 38-year-old said.
In addition to the French Open, which runs from May 24 to June 7, Federer will miss out on smaller tournaments such as Dubai, Indian Wells, Bogota and Miami, in which he planned to play.
“See you in the grass,” the eight-time Wimbledon winner wrote.
